Hogyha valamikor
Szememre nem hánynék.
Ne félj te éntőlem,
Mondd meg te azt nékem,
Hisz' én azt teneked
Szemedre nem vetem.
Mezei virágot szedtem,
Ékes bokrétát kötöttem,
Zölldeljen ki az a zöld ág,
Az a zöldellő szőlőág.
Magas az újvári torony,
Alá esett az ostorom,
Adja fel kedves galambom,
Kinek orcáját csókolom.
Varga Mári egyezerbe'
Beleugrott a tengerbe,
Mónár János kifogta őt,
Szívéhez szorította őt.
Gyere Mári az ölembe,
Hadd öleljelek kedvemre.

TITLE: 250 Barsledec "Hojeda," Pairing (Matchmaking) Song during "Grape Tying" Time
Today, the memory of this custom lives only in Ledec, where it was more accessible (example: In the 1854 records of the neighbouring Kolon, there is data on it.) During "Grape Tying Time," for the very last grapevein, they used to tie a bouquet of field flowers and the young people sang about it. (No one ever sang themselves into the "pairing" ritual, rather, they always sang about others in front of the public.) Aside from Ms. Mariska, very few know how to authentically perform this long-forgotten song. (There are some smaller mistakes in the performance, for instance, this was left out: „Tell me the truth my sweethart, tell me in the mountains tell me in the valleys, as on the tender paths.") It is worthwhile to pay attention to the dialect, which cannot be made to be felt in the written transcription.
Verse (this old folk song uses a lot of symbols and that's why its very complicated to understand even the hungarian original):
„Hojeda, hojeda, hojeda Maria Varga, Steven Szabo, hoje.
My friend Janos Monar says, "Don't take away my old love."
„Hojeda bud, hair braider, PearlGold head-wreath, I will divorce you."
„Wait it out, my heart, wait it out, wait on the mountains, wait in the valley, wait on the pearled-paths."
„I would say something yet, if I didn't care, if nobody will misuse it."
„Do not be afraid of me, Tell it to me, for I would not take any offence at that".
„I picked the field flowers, I tied an ornate bouquet,
Come out with greenness you nice greening grape-stem."
„High is the „Ujvar" city's tower,
Beneath it fell my whip,
Give it up my dear dove, Whose face I kiss."
„Marie Varga, in 1000, jumped into the sea, John Molnar fished her out, clutching her to his heart.
Come, Marie, into my lap, Let me hug you as I wish!"
